A grand day out for Westbourne grandparents!

HOW do you bring several hundred years of learning and experience into the classroom? Invite grandma and grandad into lessons!

Sheffield independent co-educational school Westbourne welcomed more than 75 grandparents into class for their first Grandparents’ Day, giving them the chance to share their knowledge and also discover how children are learning in the 21st century.

Grandparents have come in to the Broomhill school from all over the UK and one even flew all the way from Romania.

The session included a chance to meet Westbourne Headmaster John Hicks and tour the school, as well as opportunities to study ancient Egyptian history, poetry, maths and even a spot of origami.

“We wanted to make a special day that recognised the amazing contribution our grandparents make on so many levels and as part of our school community,” said Westbourne Junior School Head Jon Clark.

“It’s about hearts, minds and celebrating the many generations that go to make a family and an environment.

“The event was such a success that we’re already looking forward to Grandparents’ Day 2019.”
