Autumn activities for Shiregreen youngsters

Summer may be over, but an exciting youth group is in full swing for Shiregreen young people this autumn.

Sanctuary Housing has teamed up with Shiregreen United Reformed Church to deliver the free club, which sees young community members aged seven to 11 meet up on a Monday evening.

The youngsters can take part in sports or crafting, or simply take the opportunity to meet new friends from the local area.

Sanctuary is also part-funding activities for adults at the church – the Blend Project is an exciting community café course offering local jobseekers the chance to prepare for a career in catering.

Sanctuary’s neighbourhood partnerships manager, Melanie King, said: “We’re excited to be involved in Shiregreen United Reformed Church’s youth club, which is well-established in the local area.

“It’s important that we support our young community members to lead happy, healthy and fulfilled lives, and listen to what our residents want, and these sessions are helping us to do that.”

Lisa Wigfield, from Shiregreen United Reformed Church, added: “As well as providing a safe space for local youngsters to socialise, the youth club also offers excellent opportunities for Shiregreen adults to get involved in volunteering.”

Residents who are interested in booking a space for their child at the youth club, or who would like to find out more about volunteering at the group, can call the church on 0114 240 0338.

This project is part-funded by Sanctuary’s Community Investment Fund, supporting projects which benefit Sanctuary residents and their communities.
