BBC Radio Sheffield is delighted to announce that it has signed a new two year commentary deal with Sheffield United FC.
The deal will be in place for the start of the 2019/2020 season which sees Sheffield United return to the Premier League. It’s the first time in more than a decade for the Blades in the top flight and in celebration of that BBC Radio Sheffield will provide exclusive radio commentary of all their games, home and away.
The station will provide full match coverage of every fixture, with commentary, analysis and interviews throughout the season.
The BBC Radio Sheffield commentary team of Andy Giddings, Adam Oxley and Mike McCarthy will all be involved in the Blades’ season alongside their continued coverage of Sheffield Wednesday, Barnsley, Rotherham United, Doncaster Rovers and Chesterfield. Sheffield United legend Keith Edwards will continue to be the expert summariser for most Sheffield United games.
Katrina Bunker, Editor of BBC Radio Sheffield, said: “BBC Radio Sheffield has had a long and successful relationship with Sheffield United and I am delighted that this will continue for another two years. Of course this season carries extra interest not just for Blades fans but for our wider region as we have a team back in the top tier of English football for the first time in 12 years. With visits to the likes of Old Trafford, Anfield, Stamford Bridge and much more now coming up we want our listeners to be part of the whole journey which is why we’ve taken the decision to commit to providing full match commentary of every single game. We can’t wait to get started!”
Stephen Bettis, CEO of Sheffield United FC, said: “We are delighted to be continuing our excellent relationship with the team at BBC Radio Sheffield. Over the years they have provided a great service to Blades fans in and around the city, as well supplying the commentary for those further afield through United’s official website, and we look forward to taking their listeners on our Premier League journey.”
You can listen to full match commentary of Sheffield United’s first Premier League match of the season away to Bournemouth FC on Saturday 10th August at 3pm.
