THERE were special celebrations at Castelayn Residential Care Home in Gleadless as resident Nellie Cotterill celebrated her 102nd birthday.
One of the oldest residents in the Sheffcare group of homes, Nellie was born in Duke Street in Sheffield in October 1916.
In her youth Nellie worked as a tailoress for Sheffield clothing company Abe Levy.
She married husband Leonard at St Swithun’s Church on the Manor Estate and the couple had two children, Barbara and John, as well as grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Castelayn manager Jacqui Blaver commented: “Nellie is a remarkable lady who is a major part of Castelayn.
“We were delighted to be able to join her and her family for what is by any standard a truly remarkable birthday achievement and we all look forward to celebrating many more with her.”
