Crystal Peaks bird box building event

THEY’RE already restoring Sheffield’s historic Ochre Dike…and now they’re aiming to encourage the area’s wildlife too!

Crystal Peaks shopping centre and River Stewardship Company have been working together over several years on the clean up campaign for the small stream that rises in the Gleadless Townend area and meanders past Crystal Peaks before joining the River Rother in nearby Beighton.

And on Saturday August 17 they will be hosting a free bird box making session as they continue their efforts to attract wildlife back to the water’s edge.

The morning session will include a choice of three styles of bird box suitable to be constructed by children as young as five – all children must be supervised by a responsible adult.

Finished bird boxes will then be installed along the Dike and hopefully attract some new feathery tenants.

Tools and materials, as well as tea and biscuits, will be provided free of charge for everybody taking part.

And at the same time, there will also be a litter pick and vegetation management session along the Dike, part of the regular clean up programme.
