SHEFFIELD city centre theatre and arts space The Montgomery has launched a new hire package specifically to attract a diverse range of community theatre companies.
The Surrey Street venue – known simply by its many fans as The Monty – is currently home to many of the city’s most popular musical theatre companies.
But the new hire package is also aimed at attracting more non-musical groups to use the space.
“We have been at the heart of the city since the 1880s and are well known, well loved and well used by many of Sheffield’s leading musical theatre producers,” said The Montgomery’s Managing Director Dawn Reynolds.
“But there is absolutely no reason at all that non-musical groups shouldn’t be performing here too.
“The Monty now offers a half theatre package, providing flexibility in seating capacity and giving more opportunity for smaller community theatre companies to perform and bring a variety of different genres to The Monty’s stage.”
The full theatre, with both stalls and balcony space, seats a maximum of 420 visitors and can be hired for as little as £4,300 per week.
But a new stalls only package – perfect for non-musical groups with its capacity of 238 seats – is now available from just £2,100.
There is also a three day Thursday to Saturday package on offer at just £2,100.
Both deals includes full access to all five of The Monty’s dressing rooms, full use of all stage facilities including lighting rig, fly bars/tower and sound system as well as a Duty Technician to give advice and help.
The Monty’s in-house Box Office available through the website or at the venue itself, gives customers access to tickets 24 hours a day, and every performance is promoted on social media through Facebook and Twitter.
The venue also sends emails to customers on its database who have requested to hear of performances in certain genres.
“We are increasingly aware that non-musical theatre companies are keen to perform in the city centre but find it difficult to find a venue,” said Dawn.
“The Monty is a perfect theatre for big shows but we are very keen to demonstrate that we can host a whole range of theatrical activities and at a price that is both attractive and competitive.
“And for much smaller and more intimate productions we can even offer our popular Studio space.
“Anybody who is interested in bringing their show to the heart of Sheffield’s thriving theatre land – we are just a few yards from the Crucible and Lyceum and the City Hall – should arrange to come and have a look at exactly what we can provide.”
