Further arrest made in Sheffield murder investigation

A 21-year-old Sheffield man has today been arrested in connection to a stabbing outside of the Valley Centertainment cinema.

At around 9.20pm on Friday 21 September, emergency services were called to the cinema following reports of an altercation.

Two men, 22-year-old Fahim Hersi and a 21-year-old man, suffered stab wounds in the incident. Mr Hersi was taken to hospital but sadly died shortly after as a result of a single stab wound to the chest.

The 21-year-old man who was injured was taken to hospital but has since been discharged. He was also arrested on suspicion of murder in connection to Mr Hersi’s death and has been released under investigation.

A 21-year-old Sheffield man has been arrested on suspicion of assault in connection to the stabbing of the other 21-year-old man. He has since been released under investigation.

Today’s arrest brings the total number of arrests made so far to nine. Three people have been released with no further action and five have been released under investigation.

Detective Chief Inspector Steve Handley, leading the investigation, said: “Our investigation in to Mr Hersi’s death is continuing to progress at speed and we continue to look at CCTV footage and review forensic opportunities.

“His family are being kept updated throughout and are being supported by specialist officers.
