Growth doubles at SevenHills Fabrication

Sheffield based steel fabrication and laser cutting specialist, SevenHills Fabrication, has more than doubled its turnover in three years.

The company’s financial results ending 2019 record SevenHills’ turnover reach £3.5 million, up from £1.7 million for the financial year ending 2017 and with the company investing £1 million into plant and technology over the same period.

This is equivalent to 31 per cent year-on-year growth, with current year growth measuring 64 per cent, contributing to parent company, Steetley Corner Group’s recorded £8.5 million turnover for the year ending 2019, growing at 48 per cent.

James Harding-Terry, managing director at Steetley Corner Group, said: “SevenHills Fabrication is the group company that we identified as having excellent growth potential and we are delighted that inward investment is paying off.”

Following the commissioning of a £550,000 GBP laser cutter in 2017, SevenHillls, which traces its history back to 1926, has recently installed a £60,000 state-of-the-art electric tube-bending machine and a £250,000 computer system, designed to take the business to the next level of operational efficiency.

James added: “The company’s transition to industry 4.0 is essential for future-proofing the business and the new computer system allows full mapping of production, accounting, purchasing and distribution.

“Operating in conjunction with new machines such as the tube bender and our forthcoming £350,000 investment into a robot welder and Bystronic press-brake, the computer system will also help to up-skill our workforce so that they are able to adapt to Industry 4.0 methods.

“All of these advancements mean that our output is more efficient, quality and complexity of product is higher and our overheads are reduced, which is clearly being reflected on our bottom line, in conjunction with contract wins and diversification into emerging markets.”

The company serves a range of Industries such as Aerospace, Agriculture, Automotive, Catering, Construction, Hygiene, Materials Handing, Oil and Gas, Renewables, Warehouse solutions, Working at Heights safety solutions, working within the supply chain for both Tesco and Heathrow Airport.

Its 45 shop floor staff, including eight apprentices, are being trained in the latest methods of manufacture and up-skilled for future changes and manufacturing developments, complementing those skills with the next generation of machinery, which James anticipates will become a standard for British manufacture.

James continued: ““We look to continue expansion of our operations after ten years of consistent growth and having the technology, equipment and skills to run a manufacturing operation which continually adapts and improves is the future for this company. This approach should become prerequisite for all British manufacturers.”

James Harding-Terry has represented Sheffield at the House of Lords for the launch of Digital Manufacturing Week 2019 after being awarded a place in The Manufacturer Top 100 2018. The award publicly recognises the most dynamic leaders and innovators in manufacturing.
