Lord Mayor brings Magic touch to Westbourne School

SENIOR pupils at Westbourne School heard the story of the Lord Mayor of Sheffield’s journey from refugee to First Citizen when Coun Magid Magid visited the Broomhill Independent School.

Coun Magid explained to the students how he came to Britain as a child refugee from Somalia and how he subsequently built a new life in South Yorkshire, became involved in student politics at Hull University and then went on to represent the Green Party at Sheffield City Council before becoming the city’s youngest Lord Mayor.

“Coun Magid gave a fascinating account of his life,” said Westbourne’s Head of PSHEE, Becky Wilcox.

“I think all our students found it truly inspiring and proof that, with the right attitude, you can achieve great things.”
