Mayor Dan Jarvis: ‘Fundamental’ shift of power and resources needed from Westminster to the North

Sheffield City Region Mayor Dan Jarvis MP

Commenting on the Lord Bob Kerslake UK2070 Commission report, Dan Jarvis, Mayor of the Sheffield City Region, said:

“Lord Bob Kerslake has set out a clear blueprint for the future of devolution and how this can be used to rebalance the economy. The Government must show it is up to the challenge by overseeing a fundamental shift of powers and resources from SW1A to the North.

“South Yorkshire’s current devolution deal is just the start of a journey which will allow us to build a fairer, greener economy, which creates prosperity for all in our region. We have ambitious plans to create good jobs, drive up skills for workers and businesses, tackle the climate emergency and rebuild our transport network.

“With greater powers and budgets, we can unlock more opportunities and prosperity for South Yorkshire and help level up the UK economy. The Government can make a start by using the Budget to give South Yorkshire the tools to do the job, backed up by action in the Devolution White Paper expected later this year.”
