Monster hit Shrek heading for the Lyceum in 2019

ONCE upon a time, in a far away swamp…you’ll find a monster musical superstar!

Shrek: The Musical  is the stage sensation adapted from the smash hit Hollywood movie animated comedy favourite, a crazy re-boot of some familiar fairy tales with a cool contemporary twist.

And following hugely popular runs on Broadway, in the West End and on tour, the show will now get its South Yorkshire amateur premier in a lavish production from STOS Theatre Company.

Opening at Sheffield’s Lyceum Theatre on November 12 2019, Shrek promises to be the acclaimed theatre company’s most ambitious and spectacular show to date.

“STOS has a reputation for bringing South Yorkshire audiences the best classic shows and the latest hits,” said STOS chair Phil Brownhill.

“Amateur premiers of acclaimed musicals like White Christmas and Made in Dagenham have been among our most acclaimed productions of recent years.

“We are confident that Shrek will be a true monster hit for anybody who loves a show about big green ogres and beautiful princesses.”

And as pre-production gets under way, the company is looking for new talent both on stage and off to bring the show to life.

“If you have ever thought that you might want to be part of a show on The Lyceum stage or you have an interest in being part of the technical team we would love to hear from you,” Phil said.

“Just get in touch with us via our website at stos.org.uk or through our Facebook page – we are always looking for new members to ensure our future success.”

In the meantime, rehearsals are now under way for the company’s production of classic Stephen Sondheim show Gypsy, which runs at the Lyceum from November 13 to 17 2018.
