Pupil patrols tackle problem parking at primary school

What better way to tackle a problem than using pupil power!

PCSO Amy Lees from South Yorkshire Police teamed up with children at Walkley Primary School in an attempt to tackle parking issues in the area.

Reports of serious congestion and irresponsible parking reached an all-time high earlier this year and prompted the school to take action, including getting PCSO Lees from the Sheffield Central & North West Neighbourhood team on board.

After helping children design posters to be placed around school, PCSO Lees assisted the school in planning a series of pupil patrols, niftily named the ‘Walkley Wardens’, who started work this week!

As a result, children from the school have been giving out ‘parking tickets’ to parents and giving them some advice about the dangers of irresponsible driving – all under the watchful eye of teachers and Amy Lees .

PCSO Lees said: “This is a fantastic example of partnership working and I have thoroughly enjoyed working with the school to try and make sure children can get into their classrooms safely! Getting the children to talk to parents is a really effective way of getting important messages to stick.”
