A role model construction higher apprentice has been recognised by his employer and training provider in an award presentation.
Sheffield College apprentice Sam Woodcock, 19, is completing a higher apprenticeship in construction at Horbury Group in Rotherham.
Sam has been presented with this term’s achievement award for being a role model to other apprentices and for his outstanding attendance and punctuality.
He said: “I would definitely recommend an apprenticeship. I’ve really enjoyed taking on responsibilities and making some good friends. My course leader has been a great help in helping me to achieve my qualifications.”
Sam is studying a Higher Apprenticeship in Construction at Level 4 and his career goal is to become a senior estimator.
As an apprentice, he spends most of the week developing on-the-job skills in the workplace at Horbury Group and the rest of the time studying in the classroom.
Prior to this, Sam completed a Construction and the Built Environment Diploma at Level 3 achieving a distinction grade.
Tyrone Hoyland, Head of Academy, Construction, at The Sheffield College, said: “Sam has outstanding attendance and punctuality and is a role model to other students. He is often nominated as a ‘lead learner’ during classroom sessions assisting others who need help.”
He continued: “Apprenticeships offer great career opportunities to students and help employers to get the skills they need to grow. We are delighted to see our apprentices go further with Horbury Group.”
Declan Healy, Senior Estimator and Workplace Mentor at Horbury Group, added: “Sam has a very bright future ahead of him and if he continues with his excellent attitude and commitment, he will be a great success in his chosen career.”
