Say hello to Café Valentine

Shiregreen residents who made new year’s resolutions to get out and about and meet new people have made a successful start through a new project.

Café Valentine – a new social hub – was launched earlier this month by Shiregreen United Reformed Church (URC), with support from Sanctuary Housing.

The first session saw 22 people come along to make new connections from within their community, ranging from parents with young children, through to people of retirement age, with a range of tasty snacks and drinks available to buy.

Aimed at tackling loneliness among people of all ages, the project is set to run every Tuesday from 8.30am until 11am for breakfast, followed by a lunch service from 11.30am until 1.30pm.

Sanctuary’s neighbourhood partnerships manager, Melanie King, said: “The staff and volunteers at Shiregreen URC do an excellent job of providing activities for local residents, and we are thrilled that we have been able to offer them support in reaching even more people.

“As well as being able to relax and chat, anyone coming along will also have the opportunity to learn something new through activities being run at the café over the coming weeks.”

Residents can just drop in to any of the sessions. For more information call Shiregreen URC on 0114 240 0338.

This project is supported by Sanctuary’s Community Investment Fund, supporting projects which benefit Sanctuary residents and their communities.
