Local charity Cavendish Cancer Care’s annual woodland run, Sheffield Together, is back for its 7th consecutive year. Attendees can enjoy one of two routes (approximately 5k and 10k) through the beautiful Ecclesall Woods, all to raise funds for local cancer care.
“Sheffield Together is a really relaxed, fun event that’s suitable for all ages and abilities,” says organiser Helen Iredale. “You can run, jog or walk the shorter or longer route – it’s up to you. We welcome children and dogs, so the whole family can join in. The event is generously sponsored by Atherton Godfrey LLP – we’re really pleased to have them on board.”
2019 saw over 180 local people hit the woods, raising £6,915 for the cause. All this went towards funding the therapy on offer at Cavendish Cancer Care, which supports cancer patients and their loved ones. This includes services such as massage, acupuncture, counselling, and play therapy for children. The charity only receives enough government funding to keep their doors open for two weeks a year, meaning Sheffield Together is a vital fundraising event as well as a fun community gathering.
Following my own cancer treatment and fantastic support from Cavendish, I decided to sign myself and my children up to Sheffield Together as a way of raising money to give back to the centre,” says Julie, from Hackenthorpe. “It was also a great motivator to get my fitness back following my treatment. I walked/ran it with my 8 year old son, while my 10 year old daughter charged off ahead! It’s a really well organised event – well marshalled and signposted – in a lovely location. We will be having another go this year!”
Tickets are just £15 (or £10 for students and over 65’s), and children and dogs go free. The charity are also looking for volunteer marshals to help out and ensure the event runs smoothly.
