Sheffield Hospitals Charity cycle the distance of Land’s End to John O’Groats

Sheffield Hospitals Charity is hosting a 1,400km virtual cycle challenge to help raise funds to support patients with kidney disease in recognition of World Kidney Day.

Staff, patients and family members will be hopping on a static bike and cycling the distance of Land’s End to John O’Groats to fundraise for the Renal Department at the Northern General Hospital.

Shining a light on the Renal Department the money raised will go towards improvements such as specialist hospital equipment, pioneering research, transformation of hospital wards and support for patients and their families.

The 16-day fundraiser will raise awareness of the work the department do to help patients with kidney problems. Helen Brown, Nurse Director for South Yorkshire Regional Services and Doctor James Fotheringham will both be doing their part and getting involved with the challenge.

Abby Batchelor, Renal Fundraiser at Sheffield Hospital Charity, said:

“Our supporters have already helped us achieve so much and as a result of their generous donations we have been able to fund so many improvements, but there is still a lot to be done as we want to ensure that our patients and their families receive the best possible treatment.

“By fundraising for our kidney patients, we can continue to deliver first-class care, so I would encourage staff, patients and family members to jump on the bike on the day or sign up in advance and get involved with this incredible challenge which will be located at Sorby Renal Outpatients at the Northern General Hospital.”

World Kidney Day is an international campaign that seeks to raise awareness of the importance of kidneys on our overall health and the impact of kidney disease.

The virtual cycle challenge will start on 26 February and end on 12 March – World Kidney Day.
