The city’s outstanding landlords have been rewarded with top prizes at The Private Housing Standards Landlord Awards 2018 held recently at The Mercure Sheffield St Pauls hotel.
The ticketed event evening celebrated landlords and agents who go above and beyond their duty to provide good quality housing to the people of Sheffield.
The council’s Private Housing Standards Team runs the Landlord Awards ceremony each year. In doing so, it encourages all landlords and agents to improve their businesses and the private housing in the city and it publicises the work of the team. Their hope is that the Landlord Awards highlight to the public what services are available to those who rent in the private sector and that if they have a good landlord they should be proud of that.
Councillor Jim Steinke, cabinet member for Neighbourhoods and Community Safety said: We want to encourage people to expect more out of their private rented properties. We want them to know that if they don’t have a good landlord or if they have any concerns, however small, they can follow this up and ask our Private Housing Standards Team for advice and support. It’s certainly good to see our top landlords and agents being rewarded for the standards they work to for their tenants.
Nominations were received by tenants of the landlords and agents and the winners of the awards were picked via a panel. ‘Fit and proper checks’ were carried out to verify what was said about landlords and agents in the nomination papers.
There were ten awards categories and from a total of 159 nominations the final winners were:
Agent of the Year – Dove
Environmentally Responsible Award – Andrew and Nikki Bishop
