SHIREGREEN residential care home Springwood is opening its facilities to the wider community.
The home – part of the chain of ten properties operated across the city by not for profit organisation Sheffcare – has launched a day centre which operates from 10am to 3pm every Monday to Friday at the Herries Road site.
“We know there are many people around us who may not feel they are ready to move into residential care but who would benefit from enjoying the friendship and support of our facilities while at the same maintaining their independence,” said Springwood manager Anita Bland.
The day centre offers guests lunch, snacks, teas and coffees and the use of facilities like the home’s chiropodist and hair dresser as well as a full range of activities and trips.
The service is dementia friendly and the home can also offer transport, with places available through a Social Services referral.
“Our day centre is about maintaining dignity and independence but it is also about friendship and sharing,” said Anita.
“We have been delighted with the response since we launched the service and feel we are making a positive impact on the community we serve.”
