SOUTH Yorkshire road surface specialist SteelPhalt is entering a second year of sponsorship for the Sheffield United Women team.

And at the same time the company has also extended its sponsorship of the Sheffield United Academy at Shirecliffe.

“SteelPhalt has a strong tradition of involvement within the local community,” said the company’s Commercial Manager Lee Birkbeck.

“In addition to helping to make our region’s roads safer through the products we supply, we like to get to know the people who live in our area too.

“By continuing our support for Sheffield United Women until the end of the 2019/20 season, we are really excited to see how our investment can positively impact on the careers of these talented individuals.

“And as they will be playing many of their matches at the Olympic Legacy Park, they will be just a short distance from the SteelPhalt Headquarters.”

United are one of only 34 clubs in England to have the license from the FA to allow the club to run centres for elite girls across four age groups.

United’s development programme has already produced a number of internationals, including Millie Bright, Ellie Roebuck, Sam Tierney, Jess Sigsworth, Beth England and Hannah Cain.

The SteelPhalt plant in Sheffield Road, Rotherham, converts steel slag into a surface course for road making.

It achieves high skid resistance – enhancing road safety for both drivers and pedestrians – and maintains it throughout the whole life of the road, also avoiding the use of quarried materials and the landfill of residual slag product.

The exceptional strength and durability of steel slag extends the life of the road and lengthens road maintenance intervals for resurfacing.

The company’s products include SteelStop, SteelSurf, SteelPave and SteelFlow.
