Transport Boss Crowned National ‘Youth Voice Champion’

South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive (SYPTE) Director wins at national Youth Voice Star Awards, held by the British Youth Council.

Following his success at the Yorkshire and Humber Regional awards in January, SYPTE’s Director of Customer Services, Tim Taylor, was announced winner of the national ‘Youth Voice Champion’ last month for commitment to improving the experience of young people on public transport in South Yorkshire.

“It’s an honour to bring the national award back to South Yorkshire. I’m very surprised as I was up against some fantastic and equally deserving candidates. This award is really a reflection on the great work done by the South Yorkshire Youth Cabinets as well as my team here at SYPTE. It’s only as a result of their dedication and positivity that I was even nominated”, said Tim, speaking after picking up his award at the ceremony held in London.

Tim chairs SYPTE’s South Yorkshire Youth Transport User Group meetings several times a year. He was nominated by Barnsley Youth Council members of the youth transport user group for his tireless efforts to act upon recommendations made by young people.

“It is great to work with the Youth Cabinets to ensure young people are up to speed on current projects and policies within South Yorkshire’s transport network and ask for their views on our proposed plans. For us, it’s important we make things clear, simple and convenient for them to encourage them to keep on board public transport for years to come,” Tim continued.

The Youth Voice Star awards celebrate the breadth and diversity of youth work regionally. They also celebrate and recognise the workers and organisations that make it happen as well as projects which do things differently to address local and national issues.
