APPLICATIONS are being taken for the annual scholarship places at Sheffield independent school Westbourne.
The city’s only co-educational independent school for children aged three to 16 always offers a limited number of discounted scholarship places for entry at Year 7.
The scholarships are an excellent opportunity for more able pupils at any school in the area whose parents are considering the option of the independent sector at secondary school level.
Scholarship are awarded to recognise academic achievement and are awarded in the fields of academic achievement, music, drama, sport and all round ability
The 2019 Scholarship Examination Day will be held at the Westbourne Road school on January 21.
Applicants will also be required to submit a portfolio of evidence identifying their achievements and progression to date as well as their future expectations and they may be requested to attend a practical interview following the exams.
Scholarships offer potential students the chance to join the school with a good financial saving, although the value of any award is at the discretion of Westbourne Headmaster John Hicks.
“Our scholarship day is always enormously popular both with internal and external applicants,” he said.
“The awards are based upon academic excellence in the scholarship exams, so the number awarded will vary from year to year depending upon performance.
“We encourage the parents of all children interested in taking the scholarship exams to visit Westbourne prior to the exams and also to encourage their child to attend the school for a day to ensure they feel relaxed and familiar with Westbourne.
“At Westbourne we are proud to say that we are not only about gaining excellence but sharing excellence and a scholarship can really help to make the cost of an independent education more achievable.”
There are also some bursaries available to applicants showing outstanding levels of achievement.
Visits to the school to meet Mr Hicks and tour the school should be arranged by contacting the Senior School secretary on 0114 266 0374 or e-mail: firstname.lastname@example.org
