YORKSHIRE Windows is tackling the threat of winter flooding with a major new partnership.
Around five million people now live in flood risk areas in England and Wales and one in six homes in England is at risk of flooding.
Annual flood damage costs are in the region of £1.1 billion across England – many of those in recent years being in the South Yorkshire area.
And a particularly worrying statistic for many home owners is that they are now more likely to get flooded than burgled.
But Yorkshire Windows has launched a supply partnership with Bowater Doors, one of only a handful of manufacturers in the UK to offer a fully certified flood defence door tested to PAS 1188, the UK standard for flood protection products.
The Bowater Doors Flood Shield Door offers the best defence against rising waters.
The door comes complete with a watertight frame and 16 point locking system and is available in a variety of styles and colours.
The Flood Shield Door is also indistinguishable from the company’s standard composite door range, making it a popular choice with householders because it retains the outward appeal of their property.
“We are delighted that we can now offer our customers this extra level of safety and security for their home,” said Yorkshire Windows Managing Director Ian Chester.
“According to latest government statistic, something like 2 million properties in floodplains along rivers, estuaries and coasts in the UK are now at risk of river or coastal flooding.
“Added to that, a further 80,000 properties are at risk in towns and cities from flooding caused by heavy downpours that overwhelm urban drains, which is a huge issue for both residents and housing associations.
“Certainly flooding close our South Yorkshire base is now increasingly common and we find that increasingly we are being asked what can be done to minimise the risk of damage to property.
“By adding the Bowater Doors range to the products we offer clients, we believe we are delivering a practical, affordable solution that should ease the concerns of people most of threat from flooding, not just in winter but throughout the year.”
Yorkkshire is one of the region’s best known names in uPVC doors and windows, composite doors, bi-fold doors, conservatories, orangeries, garage doors and roofline products.
